CHARACTERS COMING FROM BOOK PAGES

Мы и мир

BY SOFIA LEBEDEVA | NOVEMBER 06, 2019

The week of training in the gymnasium began in an extremely unusual way. There was gleaming, strange October snow on the streets, and the noise in the gymnasium corridors was even a little stronger than usual. What was the magic of this day? It was in everything!

On this day, the boundaries between the literary worlds and reality seem to have been completely erased. You want to take a picture with Oblomov? Easy! You do not like Russian classics? Then maybe you will love Lewis Carroll’s Mad Hatter. Do you think it is possible to meet The Cat Basilio walking around the corner? On any school break! Do you want to shake hands with a musketeer or Peter the Great? Or maybe spell a word with Harry Potter? Or make a compliment to Malvine? Or to pet a unicorn? You want to tell me that it is impossible? On October 28 all these were possible. If not all, then a lot. It was the Day of the Literary Character celebrated in our gymnasium.

What kind of holiday was this? This was a small masquerade, which allowed schoolchildren, for a short time, to distract a little bit from the gray autumn weekdays and to feel like heroes from their favorite works. Putting in order the unusually bright «form», the children made the final touches to create their images, had fun talking and discussing each other’s outfits.

The characters from the book pages were able to demonstrate all their outfits at the Parade of Literary Characters, which took place at several school breaks. Classes representing a particular literary work, led by librarian Natalya Vasilyevna, descended the main staircase.

And now this magical day, in every sense, has already become history. We can only wait for the repetition of the fairy tale next year. Until then, we can leaf through colorful photos.
