FLAHERTIANA — DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL IN PERM

For the eighteenth time the opening of the International Documentary Film Festival «Flahertiana» was held in Perm. The festival is named after the first documentary filmmaker Robert Flaherty.
On September 14, the jury, directors, actors and movie lovers gathered in the concert hall of Perm State University, to solemnly open a new season of documentary films in Perm.
Viktor Skubey, the chairman of the jury of the Russian Flahertian wished the audience «to worry as deeply as possible»; worry about the fate of the heroes, worry about the country, the generation and, of course, for the beloved film and favorite director. Michael Collins, chairman of the jury of the International Flahertiana, explained that people are shooting documentaries because it «will make our world whole.» He wished for everyone to enjoy the festival.
At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, Michael Collins according to the tradition of «Flahertina», broke a plate on a tripod with camera, marking the beginning of the film week in Perm.
Also as a gift, the festival’s head Pavel Pechenkin picked up the film «Fragile World» for the audience at the opening ceremony of the festival, which tells about the world of nature. People constantly interrupt the idyllic picture of the forest, in that film. Ants Tammic, the Estonian director, tried to tell us about these two different worlds that cannot get along together.
The documentary films of international, Russian and student’s competitions and outside competitive shows, as well as master classes, theoretical discussions, workshops from directors from all over the world within the framework of the 18th Flahertiana forum were available to see at the “Premier” cinema center until September 20th. After the end of the forum, films can be viewed in the «Echo Flertiana» program or on the «Dom.ru Guide» channel.
