«SMART CITY» — CITY NOVOSIBIRSK

All over the world, cities are rapidly growing and transforming. You can hear the phrase «smart city» more and more often. What makes the city «smart»? Is our generation going to live in a “smart city”? Life already gives answers to these questions.
The “smart city” is a city that is arranged in accordance with the needs and desires of the people living in it. «Smart City» involves the use of new technologies, the rational use of existing resources, and the preservation of the environment. But, the main thing is that not only the city authorities take part in the management of the city, but also the citizens themselves.
Among the cities of Russia, the «smart cities» are Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kazan. The construction of a “smart city” is underway in 18 points in Russia. Novosibirsk is one of them. “Smart City” is based on five key principles: people-centered orientation, technological infrastructure of the city, improvement of the quality of urban resources management, comfortable and safe environment, and economic efficiency.
This week at the meeting in Novosibirsk, the Council of Deputies discussed the implementation of «smart projects» for our city, allowing us to monitor the performance of resources, livelihoods and security. Separately, there was a talk about expanding the number of “smart stops” of urban public transport with electronic scoreboards, video surveillance systems, Wi-Fi and sockets for charging phones. The deputies discussed problems that hinder the arrangement of a greater number of stops, and tried to identify ways to solve them.
The city of Novosibirsk is developing and does not want to lag behind global trends.
