What do the young men do on the last day before joining the army? The character of the new film by Sergei Soloviev decided to buy sneakers, so that at least they would wait for his return from the army.
The story of Andrew Gelasimov «Sneakers» made the film director interested, because of the adversity that many young people have experienced. This story had a kind of initiation rite, a test of strength. That’s enough to make a film, and see how the main character survives this period of time. And no need to search anti-war ideas, or vice versa, patriotic context in this film. That was the answer of film director to the questions of the journalists at the press conference after the screening at MIFF.
Sergei Solovyov also admitted that he does not like castings. He immediately sees whom he needs for the film. He noticed Nikolai Suslov at his entrance exams to VGIK — he stood out by his hair. Suddenly, the young man disappeared. Nicholai was found in the Shchukin Theatre School and was brought to the big screen. Solovyov immediately noticed the boy, who plays autistic in the boarding school in Bakhchisarai. The boy said he would not act in the film without his friend. So we can see two autistic boys in the film. The filmmakers were amazed by the organic nature with which the boys performed their roles.
Thus an interesting movie «Sneakers» appeared, which followed the Soloviev youth films «Assa» (1988), «Black Rose — an Emblem of Sorrow, Red Rose — the emblem of love» (1990).
