On June 3, Yekaterinburg hosted the presentation of a unique exhibition dedicated to the works of the «Great hoaxer».
Over 60 original graphic works from 5 separate series participate in the exhibition, many of them are exhibited for the first time in Russia.
Magnificent triptych «Trilogy of Love», created in 1976, is a real ode to the sublime feeling. It became the center of the ideological and logical exposition. The basis of this series of works consists of motives of tarot cards, creatively interpreted by Salvador Dali. «Trilogy of Love», created almost at the end of Dali`s life path, became the final chord of unquenchable love for a woman Gala, whom the artist loved throughout the whole his life.
12 illustrations by the number of chapters are devoted to the tale of Lewis Carroll’s «Alice in Wonderland» and executed in the technique of engraving and heliogravire-frontispiece. One hundred years after the first publication of a book with illustrations by Dali, it was called «the meeting of two great surrealists.»
Famous «Dalinian Horses» are presented in Russia for the first time. 25 lithographs were released in a limited edition in Paris studio Simeon Wajntraub & Jaques Carpentier in 1972. In 1989, 18 of these works were reprinted.
Pictures from Dali to the adventurous and comical story «The Three-Cornered Hat» written by Pedro Antonio de Alarcón only remotely reflect the specific scenes and events of a literary work. Instead, they are abound in easily recognizable «Dalian images».
Salvador Dali, who has repeatedly pointed out a «true Spanish cruelty, mania and fanaticism» in his character, could not ignore one of the world’s most famous stories about his native country. In 1968, a series of 25 color lithographs that accompanied the libretto of the opera «Carmen» was released in New York.
The great surrealist` exhibition will take place until 28 August 2016. It is open daily from 11am to 8pm in Yekaterinburg.
