On June, 21 the citizens of Lipetsk town lit the road with lots of candles as a mourning in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War.

In memory of the 75th anniversary of the beginning of a terrible war, at 10:30pm at the Cathedral Square of the city, the residents lit hundreds of candles and moved to the Heroes’ Square to the monument of Glory, where they laid flowers to the monument and put candles. This event was held in Lipetsk already 12 times for the following 12 years and each year, the city lights up with the amazing glow that burns brighter than any light of the match- this is the light of soul of indifferent offspring.
In the evening, families remember their relatives who had gone to war on June 22, 1941, tell the stories of the pioneers-heroes who did not live to adulthood, partisans, difficult life in the rear, mourn the people who died of starvation in blockaded Leningrad, talk about the war, which has left an imprint in the memory in each family.
The column was headed by the vice-governor Alexander Nikonov and government executive Sergey Ivanov. They were among the first who put a symbol of memory and grief to the eternal flame.
The number 75, built of candles greeted participants of this action in the square. Later, the entire space of the monument was filled with lights.
Light of memorial candles lit the names of Lipetsk citizens who died for their homeland. We remember, and we are proud of you!
