December 11 marks the 98 th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding person, a true patriot — Alexander Solzhenitsyn. He is the famous writer, historian, playwright, essayist, poet, social and political activist, Nobel Prize Winner in Literature, author of the famous manuscript of «The Gulag Archipelago.»
Nowadays it is, perhaps, difficult to find in our country, someone who does not know that name. Solzhenitsyn’s name sounds today in the school program — on the lessons of literature and history, there are museums devoted to Solzhenitsyn, his name is given to streets, schools, and libraries. It is spoken on television about him, radio programs are dedicated to him, his name is often on the pages of newspapers and magazines. It is called the modern Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. His works are a measure of spiritual morality, the distinctive feature of which ones – is life like it is — a real symbolic and multi-layer life, without literary fiction.
On the eve of 2018, when it is going to be celebrated the 100th anniversary of the writer, the Russian State Library and the House of Russian Abroad, held a competition of readers «Solzhenitsyn aloud.»
The competition consisted of four stages and lasted for a year. It was devoted to short cycle Solzhenitsyn`s parables «Miniatures» (years 1958-1999). Miniatures were written a little differently than the great works of the writer. Often, they did not have a clearly defined plot, but were in the form of philosophical sketches with an internal rhythm.
The result of the contest is the audiobook «Miniatures». In total, the project was attended by about 980 students from all over Russia. On the 18th of October the winners were named. On December 11, 2016 a presentation was held at a gala evening in the House of Russian Abroad.
Solzhenitsyn often repeated: «The fate — is the nature and training of character in the person- the basis for future victories and achievements.»
He hoped that the younger generation will make new achievements for our country and make its life better.
