On February 20, the “Volunteers of the Victory” of the Kostroma region met the real Hero – Vasily P. Samodurov. All his life he served in the Armed Forces of the country as an officer, a veteran, and now he is also a Kostroma citizen.
Vasily P. was born in 1924 in the village of Ivanovka, Azerbaijan SSR. He went to war in 1942 after graduating from the Sukhumi military infantry school with the rank of lieutenant. And he was only 18 years old that time.
In 1944, having graduated from the “Vistrel” courses, he went to the First Ukrainian Front. He got into 32nd separate regiment of reserve officers. Vasily P., who had gained experience, was assigned to command a battalion.
Fighting Vasily P. reached Berlin, but the Great Victory could not be met in Berlin itself. His battalion was deployed in the suburbs of the German capital, and was sent to smash the next group. He managed to cope with it only on May 12, after the capitulation of Germany.
After the end of the war, Vasily P. went to Kostroma, where he participated in the construction of rocket military units in the sixties. His profession became his vocation what his sons, who chose the military profession, also felt.
Vasily P. was awarded three Orders of the Patriotic War and the Order of the Red Star, medals: «For the Liberation of Belarus», «For Bravery», «For Victory over Germany», the Medal of the Order of Valor, commemorative medals «Patriot of Russia» and «Great Victory», as well as Order sign «For loyalty to the Fatherland.»
Despite the years, Vasily P. is very young in heart, has a great sense of humor and considers his main task before the Motherland at the present time is to be engaged in educating of young people through live communication. Happy holiday, Vasily P.!
