AT THE RHYTHM OF VYBORG

In mid-October, the first stage of the main rhythmic gymnastics tournament of the city — “Rhythms of the old city” — took place in Vyborg.
Typical cold autumn rain was drizzling on the cobbled streets of a medieval city, but the people gathered in the center “Pool” did not pay the slightest attention to this. The international rhythmic gymnastics tournament, “In the rhythm of the old city”, has been held 12 times in Vyborg.
On October 12 the first stage of the tournament, organized by the club «Rhythmix» – all-around, took place. Athletes from the Leningrad region and Karelia, Belarus and Latvia, Finland, Estonia, and even representatives of distant Brazil gathered in the hall. In total 160 gymnasts aged 4 to 16 years old took part.
Viewers saw the floor exercise routines of kids 4-6 years old. The older girls in the group from 7 to 14 years old performed two or three routines of their choice. They demonstrated mastery of the ball, hoop, clubs, or floor exercise. The most beautiful and, at the same time, most complex rhythmic gymnastics were performed by girls.
That day 24 sets of medals were awarded along with a pleasant surprise from the organizers — a trip to the master class of the multiple champion of Russia, Europe and the world, Alexandra Soldatova. The coveted certificate went to Milana Maksimchuk from Vyborg and Vera Konoptskaya, who came from Belarus. Irina Stolyarova, the competition referee, awarded a special prize to Yaroslava Yachmeneva from Izhorets. Next time, “Rhythms of the Old City” will visit the walls of this hall in February, the girls will compete for medals in the championship in separate forms.
